The City of Durham and the Durham Police Department have approved funds for a brand new forensic facility within the future District Five Substation at 516 Rigsbee Street. The approximately 7000 square foot design is scheduled for completion in late 2008. This new facility will expand the services of the FSU to include positions for a Digital Forensic Specialist and a Forensic Manager. The new facility will provide more work space for processing evidence from crime scenes, housing new equipment, managing our current case load and allow for future growth of the Forensic Services Unit.

The Digital Forensic Specialist will be primarily responsible for forensic computer examinations.

The Forensic Manager is an administrative position among the Command Staff of the Police Department.
