Prostitution Impact Mitigation Program
Periodically, the Durham Police Department conducts prostitution sweeps. As one portion of this program,
photographs of arrested prostitution offenders are put on the website for six months after the arrest, so
that the offenders' family, friends, and neighbors can see what the offender is up to. The intent of this program
is to produce a change of heart in the offenders, so that they do not feel that it is in their best interest to
continue their illegal activities. Prostitution is a blight on the community it occurs in. It attracts criminals
to the area, it spreads deadly diseases, and it is closely associated with property crime and abuse of
illegal drugs.
